Finally got around to converting my trailer to a 7 pin and added some work lights. Bonus pic of the new truck.

Like the truck!!
So, have the rockers and cab corners been done, or are you saving for when they do rot out? :)

Only the rear fenders are bad. Cab corners are fine. I'm planning on doing those soon. It's a great truck for me. 2000 silverado 1500, 5.3, 4x4, 4.10 rear diff.

Every one I looked at that wasn’t beat was a 4.8L.
Erg.

And I got a decent deal. 180k miles, 1 year old rebuilt tranny with transferable warranty, and the shell, well maintained for $4500.

Nothing wrong with the 4.8. My brother has one in his pickup, has plenty of power for most things.

THAT trailer wasn’t already a 7-pin? What was it before?

6 pin. It doesn’t have any reverse lights so there was no need for a 7 pin. In the next few weeks I’ll be adding reverse lights so when I was wiring the new truck I converted the trailer to 7 pin.

But the 5.3 is a little added comfort towing a 7k trailer with 1k in the bed going up 6-8% grades here in Colorado.

Sorry, no. Not nearly enough low end grunt. It’s a screamer when you get it going, but it doesn’t like the journey up.
To put this in perspective:
My truck is a 5.3L and I don’t need to make it downshift on the highway to get it accelerating. Our work truck, with the 4.8, quite often has to bang down 2 gears to match that acceleration, and it doesn’t like to do that. Now my truck is lighter, but it’s also detuned a little from the Silverado 5.3L, and our work truck is the lightest one available, a W/T.

Good choice, even if you didn’t need reverse lights.
I don’t like anything that’s not a 7-pin or a 4-flat. It sucks when you find yourself with a truck and trailer that don’t match. I recently installed a 7-pin on my truck, not because I needed it, but so that it would be more versatile and ready for anything. I’ve got a 4-flat adapter for it too.

Yeah, if you trailer at all I would say the 5.3 would be much better off.

Well my brothers truck doesn’t have that issue, or I just flat footed it and forgot about it. But most of the time, it has only a few hundred pounds of seed or chemical in it and is a regular cab long box so its not being loaded up with a trailer or something heavy.

Same as ours. That said, I used to like driving it, but since I got my truck it’s felt really slow.
Weird thing is, it feels at least as fast and sometimes faster off the lights than my truck due to better tranny calibration, but if I watch the speedo it just isn’t. On the highway though it’s really annoying. I like putting the oedal to the rug, I don’t like HAVING to put the pedal to the rug. There’s a difference.

As are most trailers.
Anything 5th wheel or gooseneck, and all semi trailers.

Nice truck! Early gmt800s the 99-02 like yours are notorious for those rear fenders rusting but if yours has 180,000 its really REALLY clean. I love these trucks (im on my 4th). & Pewter is my favorite color on them! :)
Most half tons do not have 4.10s though... a quick look in the glove box will tell you for sure... GT4 = 3.73 & GT5 = 4.10 The Z71 package in that year is standard 3.73 gears with G80 locking diff.
Also, Im really jealous of that trailer!

I love the trailer. It's simply the best. Not sure what the code is for the locker but I have the gt5.
